Our Story

How Torena Farms Came to be

Our family started out showing cows 4-H here in Colorado. Our oldest son won a beautiful cow whom he later named Philomina. She is still around and milking today just like she did in her golden-years (whether we want her to retire or not!). From there the herd only grew, we now have multiple generations of Holsteins, Brown Swiss, and Jerseys. Once our youngest aged out of 4-H, we had to make a decision, sell the cows or start our own dairy.  Not wanting to sell our girls and with our background in the farming and diary industry, we decided to start TORENA Farms.

What sets us apart from other raw milk herd share micro-dairies:

🐄 We use an all enclosed pipeline milking system with a raised six stall herringbone/parabone milking platform designed and built by us in a barn, also built by us in 2022.

🐄 With our system, the milk is filtered, cooled below 50°, bottled and in refrigerators set at 32° within ten minutes from coming from the cow.

🐄 Our cleaning practices are modeled after most commercial dairies.

🐄 Our pickup sites have refrigerators. And two to three day pickup windows.

🐄 We milk year-round, so our shareholders can have milk year-round. Our breeding program is set up for calves year-round, which means no dry period.

🐄 We do not charge a bunch of separate fees for things such as dirty jars, broken jars, etc.

🐄 We are a family of five and have over 50 years of dairy and agriculture experience between us.
